YOUNGSTOWN - A boil alert affecting several Mahoning Valley communities has entered its third day on Tuesday.

The boil alert stems from a "major" water main break on Hubbard Road in Youngstown between Logan Avenue and Albert Street. Residents of Youngstown, Boardman Township and Liberty Township are still asked to use bottled water or boil their drinking water for the time being.

On Monday, Harry Johnson with the Youngstown Water Department told 21 News crews need to perform 64 tests and those tests must come back negative in order for the alert to be lifted.

As of Tuesday afternoon, crews have collected all tests and submitted them to a lab, Johnson said. They are now awaiting test results, which could take roughly 24 hours, he added.

There is still no time frame for when the boil alert will be lifted, but Johnson says he is still hopeful that it will end sometime on Wednesday, February 4.
