YOUNGSTOWN - Applications are now open for two annual scholarships supporting the education of women in the Mahoning Valley.

The organization Youngstown Business & Professional Women (YBPW) is now accepting applications for the $1,000 Dr. Anne McMahon Scholarship, as well as the $2,000 YBPW Centennial Scholarship.

The Dr. Anne McMahon Scholarship was introduced in 2013 and is available is awarded to female students who are attending or will attend Youngstown State University. The scholarship is now offered through the YSU Foundation.

The YBPW Centennial Scholarship was introduced in 2020 and is awarded to female students attending an accredited two or four-year college, university or trade school in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana Counties.

The deadline to apply for both scholarships is March 16.

YBPW President Gina DeGenova is quoted in a press release saying the organization has been awarding scholarships like this to women in the Valley for more than 100 years.

"We recognize that the cost of education can be a significant barrier, and these scholarships are designed to help offset expenses and empower local women to pursue their academic and professional aspirations," DeGenova said.
