A snowy Friday and a very cold Saturday on the way

The cold and generally quiet weather that characterized Wednesday will continue into Thursday, with morning temperatures in the single digits and afternoon readings not far from 20. After some morning sunshine, clouds will win the battle for the second half of the day.
Meanwhile, a fast-moving "clipper" system will dive through the Great Lakes Thursday into Friday. In our area, snow is likely to get underway toward daybreak on Friday and it will snow pretty steadily for much of the morning and midday hours. Surfaces can be slick and those who will be on the roads should be ready for slower-than-average conditions. The snow will taper off and even end for a while during the afternoon, before the arrival of an arctic cold front will lead to an uptick in sno0w showers during the evening. Much of the Valley will see about 2 inches from the "steadier" snow and some places can pick up an addition al inch or so in the evening hours. It will also turn blustery and much colder as Friday night wears on.
Wind chill values are expected to drop as low as -20 by daybreak Saturday. It will feel like it is below zero all day and actual temperatures should remain in the single digits. The colder of the two weekend days will be Saturday, although Sunday will not be warm by any means. There may be some flurries around on Sunday.
We still anticipate a much more tolerable stretch next week with highs in the 30s starting Tuesday.
