YOUNGSTOWN - A Youngstown native and Austintown resident has officially filed for candidacy with hopes of representing Ohio's 58th District.

Jordan Pegues has announced that he has filed his petitions to run as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 58th District, which is currently represented by fellow Democrat Lauren McNally.

McNally is currently running for Mahoning County Commissioner.

According to a press release, this will be Pegues's first time running for any political position.

"Watching what is happening in our valley, state and country, I realize it is time to come off of the sidelines and work to make a difference in the valley that I love," Pegues said in the release.

Pegues's biggest concerns in the Valley are education, taxes, medical care, employment and the cost of living.

Pegues graduated from Ursuline High School. He then finished his undergraduate education at Mount Union College, where he majored in sports management and business administration.

For the past 20 years, Pegues has worked in the manufacturing industry, currently employed by Wesco Distributions as a Project Specialist.

Pegues is related to the late former Youngstown and Warren School Superintendent Dr. Robert Pegues, as well as former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams. He is also the grandson of the late former global evangelist Bishop Paul J. Pegues.
