The weekend starts with eye-watering cold, but a thaw is in sight

The arctic cold front that produced a round of snow showers Friday evening will be well to the east of the area during the first half of the weekend, but the Siberian cold is here for a couple of days. Some snow flurries can linger for a while, especially in areas north and east of Youngstown. We expect wind chill values to stay below zero throughout the day.
While the wind will diminish Saturday night, a mainly clear sky will allow air temperatures to drop quickly. Readings should be below zero throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania overnight and some of the colder spots may see temperatures as low as 10 or 15 degrees below zero. Sunday will bring a mix of sun and clouds. Snow flurries will likely scoot y just to our south and west.
Monday afternoon won't be as harsh as the weekend and the thaw will really kick in by midweek. For the first time this month, highs above the freezing mark are in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
