BOARDMAN - One person is dead after suffering severe burns in an early morning house fire in Boardman.

New details from a Boardman police report indicate that firefighters found a man unresponsive in the kitchen of a single-story home on Risher Avenue.

Firefighters rescued one man from the house. Crews performed CPR on the victim. 

The victim, believed to be the homeowner, was hospitalized for treatment. Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer tells 21 News the man has since died of his injuries. 

Chief Pitzer tells 21 News the Mahoning County Coroner is working to determine the man's identity.

A neighbor who reported the blaze told investigators she heard a sparking sound and glass breaking shortly before noticing the fire.

The witness also reported hearing at least one person talking outside the home around the time the fire started.

Firefighters from the Canfield Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
