Youngstown woman charged with traffic death of Poland man pleads ‘not guilty’

A 61-year-old Youngstown woman is free on bond after pleading “not guilty” to charges related to traffic crash that claimed the life of a Poland man.
Sally Strom was released from the Mahoning County Jail Tuesday after appearing in court for charges related to a deadly July traffic accident.
Strom appeared before Judge Anthony D'Apolito in the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas for her arraignment. During the hearing, she entered a plea of not guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of driving under the influence.
The charges follow an investigation into a crash on Route 7 in Beaver Township. State troopers reported that Strom’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 49-year-old Clinton Vankirk. The collision caused both vehicles to flip over. Vankirk died at the scene.
The judge set Strom’s bond at $10,000. Under the terms of the bond, she was required to pay 10%, or $1,000, to be released from custody while the case moves forward.
Strom is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on April 1. A jury trial has been set for April 20.
