Boardman police report that two additional people have come forward to report they were victims of catalytic converter thefts from their motor homes at a South Avenue storage facility. This follows an initial report from early February, where investigators discovered several vehicles had been tampered with.

On Monday, a man reported his 2007 Ford RV was targeted at the lot located on the 7400 block of South Ave. He told officers he visited the facility to pay a bill and was advised by management to check his vehicle. Although the RV looked normal, the engine was extremely loud when he started it. He told police it sounded like the vehicle had no muffler.

Another victim came forward on Wednesday after being notified by the facility manager. He found footprints around his 2015 RV, which was parked on the west side of the building. Like the other victims, he discovered the catalytic converter was missing after hearing a loud noise upon starting the engine.

The storage lot has been vulnerable recently because the main gate was left open due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures. Officers previously found trails of footprints in the snow and impressions where a person had been lying down to cut parts off the vehicles.

Police believe the thief entered the property by climbing a fence near Interstate 680. Management is reviewing footage from several security cameras on the property to help identify a suspect. Both of the new victims told officers they want to pursue criminal charges if an arrest is made.
