Youngstown officials are considering plans to build permanent bus shelters along Fifth Avenue on the Youngstown State University campus.

A proposed ordinance on Wednesday’s council agenda allows the city to partner with the State of Ohio and the university to use specific areas of land.

Under the deal, the university will provide the city with access to university-owned land so the city can build and take care of the transit shelters.

The agreement covers four pieces of land located along the Fifth Avenue corridor. Engineering drawings show that the shelters will be placed near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

City leaders are reviewing the legislation as an emergency measure to get the project started as quickly as possible.
