YOUNGSTOWN - A Youngstown man who was retried in a child rape case was resentenced on Wednesday.

According to the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office, 50-year-old Dustin Ruiter was sentenced to 68 years in prison on a total of 67 charges, including 33 counts each of rape and sexual battery, as well as one more charge of attempted rape.

This sentence will run concurrent with a nine-year prison sentence for six additional counts of gross sexual imposition stemming from the same case, for a total of 77 years in prison.

The case involved three victims aged 13, 14 and 15, who were all raped by Ruiter between November of 2018 and June of 2019.

Ruiter was granted a new trial after winning a 2023 appeal, which argued that the court was wrong to deny Ruiter's request to have a DNA expert testify at his original trial.

Even with the retrial, the jury still found Ruiter guilty of all charges, and he was ultimately handed the same sentence he had before.
