Local township leaders doing homework before considering data centers
A pair of local townships are doing their due diligence before welcoming any data centers into their communities.
Earlier this week, Hubbard Trustees voted 2-1 to approve a resolution that put a year-long pause on any movement in regards to these mega server rooms.
Trustee Jason Tedrow this will give their zoning commission time to get community input and lay out the pros and cons before deciding on whether to move forward.
"Seeing how some of this stuff is playing out I think it's best for us to take a proactive step and be more on our toes than on our heels. We don't want to make a misstep that can cost us financially, or take us in a direction as a community as a whole that they don't want to see us go," said Tedrow.
Tedrow says that can be ironing out guidelines such as the size of data centers the township would allow.
Elsewhere in Trumbull County, Vienna Township Leaders aren't leaning toward a moratorium, but emphasized the need to have everything in place before signing off on anything.
"We see what's occurring in Lordstown. We want to have our regulations in place prior to someone coming here," said Phil Pegg, Vienna Township Trustee.
