A Warren man admitted in court to causing a high-speed crash while driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Dennis Currey Jr., 24, entered a guilty plea in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Thursday to one felony count of aggravated vehicular assault and one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle under the influence.

The charges stem from a two-vehicle crash on Dec. 26, 2024. According to state highway patrol records, Currey was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima northbound on State Route 11 in Liberty Township when he struck the back of another car. Both vehicles lost control and stopped in the median.

The driver of the second vehicle, an 18-year-old Southington woman, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Investigators noted that Currey’s blood alcohol level was .161 percent at the time of the crash, which is twice the legal limit in Ohio.

Currey originally faced three charges, but prosecutors amended the indictment as part of the plea agreement. Judge Sean O'Brien accepted the plea and ordered a pre-sentence investigation. A jury trial that was scheduled for late February has been canceled.

Currey awaits a sentencing date.
