Voting begins today for Mercer County Food Bank grant

Public voting is underway for a contest that could award the Mercer County Food Bank a $10,000 grant.
The food bank is a finalist for the GBU Foundation’s annual grant program. Community members nominated the nonprofit, which then passed a judging round to reach the final stage of the competition.
The GBU Foundation is the charitable arm of GBU Life, a fraternal benefit society based in Pittsburgh. Its grant program supports organizations focused on wellness, education, and community service.
Residents can cast their votes on the GBU Foundation website starting Feb. 13. The voting period ends at 11:59 p.m. Feb. 28.
Executive Director Rebecca Page said the grant money would help the food bank grow its distribution efforts and provide more meals to people in need.
The Mercer County Food Bank belongs to the Feeding America network. The organization coordinates with more than 70 local agencies and manages six of its own distribution programs.
Last year, the food bank provided 3 million pounds of food to county residents.
