New owner saves Fowler General Store from closure

FOWLER TWP., Ohio - A historic community staple will remain open after a last-minute buyer stepped forward to save the Fowler General Store and Bakery.
The owners of the shop at 3457 Youngstown Kingsville Road previously announced the business would close on Feb. 14. In a social media post earlier this month, the owners said the economic challenges of running a small business had become too difficult to continue.
However, the store announced Friday that a new buyer reached an agreement to take over the shop. The identity of the new owner has not yet been released.
The store operates out of a building constructed in 1864. It is known throughout the region for its smoked meats, fresh baked goods, and local handmade products.
A store employee said Saturday will be the final day of operation for the current owners. The business will hold a community celebration from 11 a.m. until sold out.
Following the event, the store will close for approximately two weeks. The new ownership plans to use the time to restock and refresh the space before reopening to the public. Management said many of the current employees plan to stay and work under the new leadership.
