Rape trial to begin Monday for owner of former Coitsville church property

COITSVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The owner of a former church building in Coitsville is set to go on trial Monday.
An employee at Judge Maureen Sweeney's court tells 21 News that the trial of 47-year-old Matthew Nicholson is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 23.
Nicholson is charged with three counts of rape, as well as one count each of sexual battery, aggravated possession of drugs and receiving stolen property. He was secretly indicted in January of 2025.
The secret indictment was filed just a few months after a human trafficking raid was conducted at the former Coitsville Presbyterian Church building in September of 2024.
The Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force confirmed with 21 News that this raid was connected to Nicholson. The Mahoning County Auditor's website lists Nicholson as the owner of the former church property.
