A foggy start to Thursday; rain and colder temperatures to follow

After a damp day Wednesday, the lingering low-level moisture will aid in the formation of areas of fog overnight into early Thursday morning. Fog will then lift out into a cloudy to partly sunny sky and temperatures will quickly warm through the 50s. Rain showers look increasingly likely toward sunset and there might even be a rumble of thunder is parts of the area.
A lull in rain shower activity early in the evening will probably be followed by a period of rain during the overnight hours, but most of the wet weather will be gone by sunrise on Friday. An advancing cold front will be knocking on our door by midday, but more April-like air will precede the arrival of the more typical February air. Readings are likely to reach the upper 50s by midday, but it will be closer to 40 by sunset Friday evening. Additionally, a gusty wind will develop on Friday and there can be a few gusts around 40-45 mph as the colder air surges eastward.
The upcoming weekend will start with much more seasonable air. Clouds will win out on Saturday around and north of I-80, but southern areas can have more in the way of sun. Sunday looks even colder with a good chance for snow flurries. At this time, any snow accumulations on Sunday look quite minor and largely confined to non-paved surfaces.
