Niles McKinley High School student hosts fundraiser for American Heart Association

One Niles McKinley High School student is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, February 21, to benefit the American Heart Association.
Proceeds from "The Beat" fundraiser will go towards the American Heart Association Teen of Impact Campaign of Katie Zook.
Zook is a dancer and assistant at The Dancing School, located at 812 North State Street in Girard.
Zook, according to a Facebook post outlining the fundraiser, accepted her nomination to be the Teen of Impact for the area due to a personal connection she has to raising awareness about heart disease and stroke.
"My family has been largely affected by heart disease and strokes. My grandfather, my mother's father, passed away in 2000 at age 67 from a massive heart attack, nine years before I was born," Zook outlined in her Teen of Impact profile on the American Heart Association website.
The Teen of Impact challenge, put on by the American Heart Association, was created to aid teenagers in bringing awareness to warning signs and risks of heart health to their communities.
Zook's Saturday fundraiser will take place in the Niles McKinley High School Auditorium at 5 p.m. and will feature basket raffles, baked goods, a 50/50 raffle, apparel orders and much more. Doors open at 4 p.m.
Additionally, the following dance schools and companies will be performing:
- The Dancing School
- Dynamic Dance
- Jo Marie School of Dance
- The Dance Space
- The Trumbull Senior Performance Company

Zook is not the only Mahoning Valley student participating in the Teen of Impact Challenge. Alongside her are Canfield High School student Hudson Moser and Crestview High School student Bridget Borchardt.
