Niles Police Department: One suspect in custody following shots fired, standoff

One person was taken into custody, according to a news release from Niles Police Department Chief Jay Holland, after shots were fired and a standoff early Sunday morning.
Just before 5 a.m., the Niles Police Department began receiving multiple calls regarding shots being fired in the area of South Cedar Street.
When officers responded to the area, they reportedly heard more gunshots and a female screaming.
Officers were able to pinpoint the location of the shots to the area of a duplex in the 20 block of Wood Avenue. One officer saw a male suspect, identified in the release as 20-year-old Xavier Arrington, pictured above, run into the apartment and shut the lights off.
This same suspect was spotted carrying a rifle on Wood Street.
The release goes on to outline that the incident became a standoff when occupants inside the home did not answer the door.
Multiple attempts were made to speak with the occupants, but were unsuccessful.
After some time, a female occupant of the home eventually surrendered to the Niles Special Response Team (SRT) that had been deployed to the scene in response to the standoff. She was later released without charges.
A drone was later used, and phone contact was made with the primary suspect. At that time, the suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken into police custody.
Arrington is being held at the Trumbull County Jail and has been charged with one felony count of having weapons while under disability and one misdemeanor count of inducing panic.
Officers later executed a search warrant, which revealed a loaded AR-15 rifle and multiple spent casings at the scene.
The release goes on to say that the suspect allegedly exited the home while intoxicated and shot at random after a domestic disturbance.
Arrington is set to appear in court on Monday, February 23.
