Report: Man attempts to light Youngstown Dollar General store on fire

YOUNGSTOWN - Police in Youngstown are investigating after a man allegedly attempted to set a Dollar General store on fire.
According to a police report, the incident happened on Tuesday, March 3, around 7:30 p.m. at a Dollar General store on Belmont Avenue.
The store's manager showed police security footage, which showed a white male in a red Ohio State hoodie and grey shorts walking from the clothing aisle to the candy and cleaning supply aisle and taking out a pack of clothing from his hoodie pocket.
From there, police say the video shows a spark of what appeared to be a lighter and the suspect hunching over to light the pack of shirts on fire.
Police say as the flames grew larger, the suspect placed the pack of shirts inside a box of brooms to start a larger fire, but this failed.
From there, police say the suspect left with another man who was purchasing items during the incident and the two left the store in a blue 2022 Jeep Compass.
At this time, no suspects have been identified yet.
