The Youngstown State women's basketball team will play for the Horizon League Championship.

The Penguins defeated Cleveland State 60-55 to advance to the title game for the first time in school history.

"This has been a goal of ours ever since I stepped foot on Youngstown's campus," said Melissa Jackson, Youngstown State basketball coach.

Danielle Cameron led the Penguins with 16 points, followed by Erica King with 13 & Sophia Gregory with 11.

The Penguins held an eight point lead with 7:35 left in the second quarter, but were outscored 11-4 the rest of the quarter and led 24-23 at the half.

The cool-streak lasted more than eight minutes of game time before the Penguins scored with 4:56 left in the third quarter and trailed 31-27.

The Vikings outscored the Penguins 17-11 in the quarter to take a 40-35 lead after three quarters.

"We knew Cleveland State was going to give us their best shot," said Jackson. "They came out after half, really punched us in the mouth, called that timeout, really settled us down and we punched back."

The Penguins play top-seed Green Bay Tuesday at noon with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
