Multiple Valley schools earn Governor's Science of Reading Champions Award

Mahoning Valley - Multiple Mahoning Valley schools have earned the Governor's Science of Reading Champions Award for 2026.
This award acknowledges schools that demonstrate strong implementation of the Science of Reading in their classrooms to boost student engagement and literacy outcomes.
"When you see a teacher using the Science of Reading to the fullest in the classroom, it's quite remarkable. For students, it's fun, engaging and effective," said Ohio Governor DeWine.
Out of over 100 schools across the state that earned the award, eight were from the Mahoning Valley. A list of those can be found below.
- Austintown Elementary School
- Campbell Elementary-Middle School
- Memorial High School
- C.H. Campbell Elementary School
- Hilltop Elementary School
- E.J. Blott Elementary School
- William S. Guy Middle School
- Niles Intermediate School
"We applaud this group of schools and are encouraged by their growth in literacy because it means more students are strengthening their reading skills," said Stephen Dackin, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director.
