NILES The Mahoning Valley Scrappers will transform into the Mysterious Grassmen for one night only on June 11 at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood.
 
The Grassman has been a local legend for years. The creature is said to roam the forest, leaving strange footprints throughout the valley.
 
The Grassman gets his name from the massive nest made from huge piles of grass and branches, which is hidden deep in the woods.
 
Over the past few weeks, multiple residents across the Mahoning Valley have reported rustling in the outfield grass; some say they saw a large, shadowy figure at the ballpark right after dark.  
 
Residents believe he returns because he is drawn to the energy of baseball season in the Mahoning Valley. Others think he has been here all along, watching from the shadows.  
 
One thing is true: On June 11, the legend will step onto the field. Players will take the field in their limited-edition Grassmen jerseys and hats. Player jerseys will be auctioned online and at the game.
