New Castle's Jameson Hospital hopes to join UPMC
Jameson Health System in western Pennsylvania is the latest to seek an affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - Jameson Health System in western Pennsylvania is the latest to seek an affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Officials with UPMC and Jameson - based in New Castle - say they've signed a nonbinding letter of intent to merge Jameson into UPMC's hospital network. UPMC is western Pennsylvania's dominant network with 20 hospitals.
The New Castle News says both sides hope to develop a plan within six months for Jameson Memorial Hospital and related facilities to affiliate with UPMC.
As part of the deal, UPMC would assume Jameson's $40 million in long-term debt and $15 million in outstanding pension obligation. The deal also call for UPMC to invest $70 million into Jameson facilities as well as two Horizon hospitals in nearby Farrell and Greenville, which are already part of UPMC's network.
