Motorcycle, responding West Point rescue squad involved in separate crashes

WAYNE TOWNSHIP - A motorcycle crash that seriously injured two people in Columbiana County on Sunday was followed minutes later by a collision involving a responding fire department vehicle.
The first incident occurred just after 1 p.m. in Wayne Township, when Gregory Stuntzman, 64, of Carrollton, was operating a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on State Route 518, according to state troopers. Authorities say Stuntzman failed to round a curve, drove off the road, and struck an embankment. Stuntzman and his female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.
A medical helicopter flew Stuntzman to Mercy Health Main Campus in Youngstown. The female passenger was transported a rescue squad to the same hospital. Neither victim was wearing a helmet, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the patrol.
Minutes later, a West Point Fire Department rescue squad responding to the motorcycle crash collided with another vehicle at the intersection of State Route 164 and State Route 518.
Joanne Martin, 49, of Salineville, was traveling northbound on State Route 518 in her 2006 Ford Fusion when the rescue squad struck her vehicle while turning into the intersection from State Route 164. Martin was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No fire department personnel were injured in the crash.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
