Arrangements set for Quaker Steak and Lube co-owner Gary Meszaros

Gary “Moe” Meszaros, co-founder of the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant chain, passed away Friday afternoon at the age of 68 from complications following his surgery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, August 23 and Monday, August 24 from 3:00-7:00 at St. Joseph Church on East State Street in Sharon.
A burial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25 at St. Joseph Church.
Meszaros was a lifelong resident of Mercer County.
He served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Calvary in Vietnam.
After being discharged, he returned to Sharon and owned and operated Valley Carpet Care.
He co-founded the Old Express Ltd. Restaurant Corp. and operated the Old Express Restaurant, Freight House - Night Club, and Seafood Express.
In 1974, he opened the first Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon. He was involved and oversaw 64 restaurants in 16 states and Canada.
In addition to restaurant operations, Meszaros was known for starting numerous community events and fundraisers.
He was a member of many organizations throughout the area, including the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, the O'Brien Children's Memorial Fund and S.E.E.D.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Meszaros Family Charitable Foundation c/o Community Foundation in care of Western PA and Eastern Ohio, 7 W. State St., Suite 301, Sharon, PA 16146.
