BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - Boardman Police are investigating the disappearance of a dozen recently released popular Nintendo Switch 2 game consoles that were never delivered to people who ordered them.

Twelve Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundles and one Nintendo Switch 2 controller, valued at a combined $6,072, were ordered by customers of Doral Drive Walmart but weren't delivered. Switch 2, released by Nintendo early Thursday, is so popular that eager gamers lined up at the Boardman Best Buy and Game Stop hours early to be among the first to buy one.

According to the report, a delivery driver picked up 14 online orders from Walmart for local delivery on Wednesday morning. Only one of the 14 deliveries was completed, according to store officials.

When contacted on Wednesday, police said they were told that the driver had been in a traffic accident and was taken to a hospital. However, as of Friday, the products had not been delivered to customers or returned to the store, and the store was unable to reach the driver by phone. The Boardman Police Department also found no record of a crash involving a vehicle matching the description of the driver’s delivery van during that time.

Some of the 13 customers contacted the store asking about their orders and were told about a delivery issue and police involvement. No refunds have been issued to customers, nor have any been requested at the time of the report.

Authorities obtained delivery paperwork for all 14 orders, which listed the same delivery driver's name. A still image from surveillance video shows what appears to be a minivan used by the driver.

Police have a DVD copy of the surveillance video, and the report has been forwarded to the detective division.
