BEAVER TWP., Ohio - One man was killed and two other people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Beaver Township Thursday afternoon.
State Troopers say Russell McCullough Jr, 26, of Alliance was a passenger in a car that pulled into the path of a tractor trailer at the intersection of Routes 165 and 626 at around 3 p.m.
The driver of the car, Gabriel Blankenship, 22, of Salem is in St. Elizabeth Medical Center with serious injuries.
Troopers say although the car stopped at the intersection, Blankenship failed to yield the right of way to the truck, driven by Gerald Westfall, 71, of Newton Falls.
Westfall was also taken to St. E's for treatment of minor injuries.
"The car stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded through. The truck was coming northbound and the car just pulled out in front of him. The truck put on his jake brake and tried to stop but there was no missing it. There were calls in all ways so he couldn't have avoided it," says witness, Jennifer King.
People who live near the intersection says accidents are very common here and they want something to be done about it.
Raymond Peace, says, "This has been a bad intersection since I've been here. I've lived here about 15 years and I've seen about 10+ accidents. I'd be happy with a 4 way stop as long as it could save someone's life when they come down if they know it's a 4 way stop."
Other homeowners say a stop light or flashers are needed here to make sure a tragedy like this doesn't happen again.
The intersection was closed while the accident was investigated.
Troopers, who say all three were wearing seatbelts, continue to investigate the crash.
