CLARK, Pa. - Police say a teenager has been charged with a felony after allegedly confessing to setting a fire at a Mercer County church.
According to the Hermitage Police Department, a 16-year-old told officers that they set a fire on the porch of the Clark Trinity United Methodist Church early in April.
Hermitage Police Chief Eric Jewell tells 21 News that firefighters were called out late April 6th when a neighbor spotted flames at the church on Charles Street.
The Clark Volunteer Fire Department put out the fire, which was limited to a covered porch area outside of a rear entrance to the church.
Flames damaged a small portion of the building's exterior and outdoor carpet. A window in a door was also cracked.
Evidence suggesting arson was found at the scene, according to Hermitage Police.
Officials say the evidence led the investigators to the teen suspect.
The juvenile now faces a second-degree felony arson charge.
Noone was in the building at the time of the fire, however, damage to the building is estimated to be approximately $13,000.
