COLUMBUS, Ohio - A letter filed with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services sheds more light on how many people will lose their jobs at Northside Regional Medical Center, and what types of jobs.
Executive Vice President at Steward Health Care System, Patrick Lombardo has submitted a so-called WARN notice, required under the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
The notice lists 388 positions that will be eliminated when Northside closes by September 20.
In a media release announcing the closure, officials said it would try to place some of those employees at Sharon Regional and Trumbull Memorial Regional Medical Centers, which Steward also operates.
The largest group of workers losing their jobs are Registered Nurses. The 160 RNs are represented by the Ohio Nurses Association.

Re: Notice Regarding Closure of Northside Regional Medical Center
Dear Ms. Handberg:
This letter is sent pursuant to the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, 29 U.S.C. § 2101 et seq. to inform you that Northside Regional Medical Center (“NRMC’). located at 500 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44501, will permanently close.
All employees are anticipated to continue employment up to and including October 14, 2018, at which time each employee’s employment will be terminated. However, it is further anticipated that employees will not be required to report to work after no later than September 20, 201 8.
The entire facility is expected to close permanently as of no later than September 20, 2018. The positions of all employees working at NRMC are expected to be eliminated in conjunction with the closure.
Certain functions that are not part of NRMC, but are physically located on the NRMC property, will continue to operate. A list of the job titles of positions to be affected and the number of affected employees in each job classification as of the date ofthis notice is provided herewith. Some, but not all, ofthe affected employees may have bumping rights.
Some of the employees affected by the closure of NRMC are represented by the Ohio Nurses Association (“ONA”). The Chief Executive Officer ofthe ONA is Lori Chovanak, and her address is 4000 East Main Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213. Others of the employees affected by the closure of NRMC are represented by SEJU District 1199, WV/KY/OH (“District 1199”). Becky Williams is the President of District 1199, and her address is 1395 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
One employee affected by the closure of NRMC is represented by Ohio Council 8, and Local 2804 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (“AFSCME Council 8”). John A. Lyall is the President of AFSCME Council 8 and his address is 6800 North High Street, Worthington. Ohio 43085- 2512.
The closure of NRMC is subject to the fulfillment of any and all collective bargaining obligations which may exist.
