Working from home offers the flexibility to watch your kids, save money on gas, and avoid harsh winter commutes.

According to Flexjobs, an online job board with an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, Youngstown has a very healthy telecommuting population at 5%. That's the second highest in the state, next to Cincinnati, and slightly above the national average.

But, when you think of work-from-home jobs, if you only think low paying and telemarketing work. Think, again.

"There are a lot of barriers to employment and companies are seeing this as a way to break down some of those barriers for the best talent out there," said Carol Cochran, Director of People and Culture at Flexjobs.

Flexjobs specializes in remote, part-time, freelance and flexible jobs.

Here's a list of just some the top career fields and the companies Flexjobs sees hiring for remote work.

Medical and Health: United Health Group, Anthem, and Humana

Computer and IT: Dell, Xerox and Teradata.

Education and Training: Kaplan and Western Governors University

Accounting and Finance: Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase

Travel and Hospitality: Hilton, BCD Travel and Carlson Wagonlit Travel.

"So it really just runs the gamut in terms of experience, education," said Cochran.

But, before you log on and search for that perfect job beware of scams.

"For every legitimate job that we find, it's estimated that there are 60-70 scam jobs out there," explained Cochran.

Cochran said just typing in the phrase "work from home" it can trigger an array of scams.

"Steer more towards words like remote work, virtual work, those sorts of things," suggested Cochran for your search.

And if you're ever asked to pay money she said that should be a red flag.
