As we get closer to Election Day, Ohioans are getting closer to voting for a new governor.

Polls released this summer have Republican candidate Mike DeWine with a four-point lead over Democratic challenger Richard Cordray.

Both candidates decided Labor Day was the perfect day to come out and speak to their supporters at the Canfield Fair.

The Canfield Fair has always been an important place for politicians to come and meet the people and try to get votes.

This year is no exception.

President Donald Trump also made an appearance during his presidential campaign in 2016.

Monday, DeWine, and Cordray stopped by the fair to shake a few hands and talk about what they're going to do to help fight the opioid epidemic here in the Valley.

Cordray said he wants fewer drug users in jail, and instead more in treatment, which directly reflects Issue One that is on the November ballot.

"We should get that money back that we are wasting in our prisons and give that money back to our communities for treatment that will help us fight the war on opioids and that will help us be smarter in using resources on crime, focus on violent criminals and focus on drug traffickers. That, I think, is good public policy," said Cordray.

"We have to start in Kindergarten. We have to start every single year, K-12, and if we do that and do something that is age appropriate every year, but also do something every year that's been proven and actually works, we are going to fundamentally reduce addiction in the state of Ohio," said DeWine.
