YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown State football team will play seven home games during the 2019 football season. 

The Penguins have home contests against Howard, Duquesne, Robert Morris, South Dakota State, Western Illinois, North Dakota State, and Illinois State.

YSU has its earliest regular-season game in school history when it opens the campaign on August 24 against Samford in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff in Montgomery, Ala.

In September, the Penguins play host to Howard (Sept. 7), Duquesne (Sept. 14) and Robert Morris (Sept. 28). It will be the first-ever meeting between YSU and Howard. The Penguins last played Duquesne in 2016 and Robert Morris in 2017. The Dukes won the Northeast Conference Championship and defeated Towson in the opening round of the 2018 FCS Playoffs.

Youngstown State opens Missouri Valley Football Conference play at UNI on October 5. The Penguins will play three of their next four MVFC games at home starting with an October 12 contest vs. South Dakota State. After a trip to Southern Illinois on October 19, YSU returns home for contests against Western Illinois on October 26 and North Dakota State on November 2. Consecutive road games at South Dakota on November 9 and at Indiana State on November 16 close out the away portion of the schedule. The home finale is set for November 23 against Illinois State.

The Penguins last played 12 regular-season games in 2014. That was also the last time the program had seven regular-season contests at Stambaugh Stadium. It is the first time since 2004 that the program will not play an FBS opponent.
