First preview for auction of Golden Dawn Restaurant in Youngstown
The future of the historic Golden Dawn Restaurant in Youngstown is unclear since it was announced the 86-year-old business was going up for auction.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The future of the historic Golden Dawn Restaurant in Youngstown is unclear since it was announced the 86-year-old business was going up for auction.
Johnny Naples had been operating the restaurant on the city's north side after the passing of his dad Ralph Naples, Sr. in 2016.
He walked through the doors of the business which have been shut for the last two years.
"It's very sad it had to come to this point, but I'm doing everything I can in my power to try and get the restaurant in my name and reopen it and keep the legacy of my father in the Youngstown community," said Naples.
Trumbull County's probate judge ordered the auction last month after family differences over what to do with the property.
Byce Auction officials said the preview and online auction is scheduled to end Thursday, March 7th at 4 pm.
The minimum bid for the restaurant which seats 76 and 19 more customers at the bar is $50,481.
"The bar will sell complete with the contents, an option for the liquor license, and the real estate," said Jeff Byce from Byce Auction. "There are two other offerings which consist of 11 rental properties, three of which are located behind the bar. There are about seven additional properties scattered throughout the north side. If I have the highest bid, I would like to add to the kitchen and make an entrance and bathrooms handicapped accessible."
Even with the thought that the restaurant can be turned into something new, Naples recalls the memories he's had over the years at the business.
"I miss working with my father and uncle behind the bar, having parties, Ursuline football games against Mooney. I miss the crews, people who enjoy dinner and drinks here. My grandmother and grandfather, Mary and Andrew Naples, started the restaurant using my grandmother's Italian recipes," said Naples. "My dad Ralph and his brother Carmen took it over. After their passing, and I started running operations of the business after their passing. A lot of people have come just to wish me well or to have one last look around. I hope it isn't a last walk through and I hope to see them in the near future. A lot of memories were made here. The restaurant has been in the Naples family for 86 years."
