YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A violent rash of gunfire on Youngstown's north side has left one man dead and neighbors shaken.

"I'm scared," says David Sloan of Youngstown. He likes his north side neighborhood, despite some occasional dramatic episodes.

"There's been gunshots here and there, we play the game 'gunshots or fireworks' all the time," he says.

But what happened Tuesday afternoon shook him more than anything he's seen in 10 years living here.

"None of it's ever been this close to home," Sloan says.

Around 2:30 in the afternoon, police got a call about an eruption of gunfire and a man laying behind some bushes along Tod Lane between Kensington and Elm.

Investigators would only say it was a man in his mid 20s.
They spent about three hours processing the nearly 60 shell casings that littered the street - some from assault rifles, some from handguns.

"Just speechless," says Sloan.

The shooting that sadly took one life has Sloan fearing for his, and others.

"My wife's here...she called and was terrified to come home," he said. "I couldn't imagine somebody being hit with a ricochet bullet, somebody that I love."

Police believe several vehicles were involved, but say a wrecked pickup truck was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The two people inside went to the hospital with injuries not having to do with the shooting.
Detectives are on the lookout for another vehicle that may have been involved.
With such a sudden display of violence, and after having lost a childhood friend to it before, David Sloan can only hope a simple change in thinking can stop it.

"Just being prideful of your community and not wanting this kind of stuff in your area," Sloan says.

But until that answer comes...

"I have faith in YPD and what they're doing and I think they're going to be able to get this solved," says Sloan.

Police are conducting a lot of interviews but so far have not zeroed in on any suspects.
They did not talk to us on camera about the investigation, but did say we'll likely know more as early as Wednesday.
