GREENVILLE, Pa. - Thursday was another clean-up day following the latest round of storms and heavy rain. One of the hardest hit areas this time around was Greenville, Pennsylvania.
Neighbors around Loutzenhiser Alley can't believe the damage done to their road by the rushing water. The road is washed out and possibly beyond repair.
"This is the worst. Nothing like this before," said Charlie Weaver, who has live in the neighborhood 25 years.
The water inundated yards, leaving behind thick mud and debris. Weaver was watching from his porch as the water began to flood North Third Street.
"I said here it comes, and we rushed out to the vehicles and moved them up the street because they were right up to the bottom of the doors by then," Weaver said.
The water washed away the side yard and a stone wall of the home of Bob Galus. "That wall was here for forty or fifty years, the first time it ever took it out," Galus said.
The force of the water pushed that wall to the bottom of the hill where it was just a pile of stones.
Weaver said he tried to save his neighbors gas grill as it floated past. "I don't know where that gas grill went to; I couldn't find it," he said.
At the bottom of the lane, the water rushed in the back door of Tom Benson's home "I had four foot of water in my living room," Benson said.
He said there's not much chance of ever moving back in. "I don't think so; we're going to have to find another place."
City officials were out doing damage assessments, which they will compile and send to the state for possible emergency relief. The American Red Cross is also offering assistance.
For now, Tom Benson and his wife will be staying with relatives. "We lost everything, but we're alive, so what the hell."
There were no reported injuries from the flooding.
