Concerned neighborhood groups are holding a rally in Warren Saturday in hopes of attracting state and federal attention to help pay for the cost of demolishing the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital on Tod Avenue.

The rally is being organized by the Northwest Neighborhood Association and the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.

"Everybody agrees with us it has to come down, but nobody knows what to do about it," said Northwest Neighborhood Association chairman Bob Weitzel.

Local politicians, including Warren Mayor William Franklin, are expected to attend the event.

The large building has sat empty for years, and city officials have said in the past asbestos removal, and demolition of the former hospital could cost anywhere between $10 to $12 million.
