Johnson & Johnson is recalling some of its baby powder over asbestos concerns.

The recall of one lot of Johnson’s Baby Powder is in response to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration test indicating the presence of what is described as sub-trace levels of chrysotile asbestos contamination.

According to a statement from the company, the concentration of asbestos no greater than 0.00002% was found in samples from a single bottle purchased from an online retailer.

The recall involves Lot #22318RB of Johnson’s Baby Powder, from which the tested sample was taken.

The company says it is working with the FDA to determine the integrity of the tested sample and the validity of the test results.

Johnson & Johnson says it cannot confirm whether or not cross-contamination of the sample caused a false positive, whether the sample was taken from a bottle with an intact seal or whether the sample was prepared in a controlled environment, or whether the tested product is authentic or counterfeit.

The company says as recently as last month, their testing found no asbestos in the product.

Anyone who has a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Powder Lot #22318RB is being advised to discontinue use of the product.
