Ohio's BMV estimates they process about 16 million transactions a year. So in an effort to cut down your wait time, they think a new program will help.

The new system allows you to go online to the BMV website and check-in ahead of time. You then have four hours to go to the BMV, type in your number at a kiosk, and then you'll claim your spot in line.

"I was a customer myself. I actually went online. I got checked in and got my text. They gave me my code number. I came in and checked in the kiosk, and I was in and out without having to stand in line," said Lt. Governor Jon Husted.

The website will also help drivers find the best BMV to visit to get the fastest service.

"They'll be able to see the agencies closest to them on a map and view live wait times, so they can make an informed decision about which location to visit," said Registrar Charles Norman, Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

And now as people are starting to get the new driver's licenses that require people to bring a lot of things with them, you'll be able to know what you need to bring before you arrive.

"What this technology allows me to do is funnel transactions to my most experienced clerks that can provide that. Thus reduce wait time," said Deputy Registrar David Lackey.

The less experienced clerks can then be given customers who need simpler transactions.

The Get in Line, Online program is available to people in the Mahoning valley right now and should be all over Ohio by next June.
