Sixth inmate at FCI Elkton dies from COVID-19, cases rise among staff members

ELKTON, Ohio - Coronavirus cases and deaths continue to rise among those at FCI Elkton with more cases and one more inmate death.
According to the Bureau of Prisons website, cases now total 73 with 39 of those being inmates and 34 being staff members.
An additional inmate death was reported with the total now being six.
Prison officials say 62-year-old William Hutsell was hospitalized with breathing problems and a fever. He died Thursday.
Hutsell, who was serving a 19-year-sentence for a 2013 conviction on child pornography charges in Indiana, was said to have pre-existing medical conditions.
No staff members have died from the virus as of Thursday.
The number of additional cases among staff members increased by eight over a two-day period and three more inmates have tested positive in that span.
A plan released Monday by the Bureau of Prisons includes a 14-day period where inmates at all federal prisons will be secured in their cells to decrease the spread of the virus.
After 14 days, the decision will be reevaluated and officials will determine whether or not to return to normal operations.
