Brookfield men "lucky to be alive" after tree falls on car
Imagine driving home in your car and all of a sudden, a tree crashes down on top of your vehicle. Two Brookfield men say they're lucky to be alive Thursday after being crushed underneath a tree.
The end result of the tree falling on Mitchell Moffett's car was a dented roof, the rear-view mirror hanging by a thread, and tree limbs all over. Moffett says he was going just 20 miles per hour on Callar Price Road just north of Route 82 with his brother in the vehicle, when the tree simply wouldn't stop.
"All of a sudden, this tree just kept on falling and I thought I was in a dream like, 'what is going on?' This tree fell on us and it hit my windshield. I started backing up because I was scared and it literally hit on our heads, my head and my brother's head."
Moffett says the tree fell so fast, there was simply no avoiding it.
"You're panicked and your adrenaline is going, you don't know what to do. I don't know what I did to be honest. I panicked."
As crews worked to chop up and remove the tree they believe was rotting at the base, Moffett is simply counting his blessings.
"We are blessed," Moffett added. "We are lucky, like I said the hand of God was with us and He has a purpose for us. That's all I can say."
