New Castle firefighters injured rescuing juvenile from Shenango River

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - The New Castle Police and Fire Department rescued a juvenile female from the Shenango River Friday afternoon.
According to the release, the incident happened around 5:10 p.m. after a juvenile female jumped from the bridge into the Shenango River and was caught in a rapid current.
Police and fire personnel went into the water after the girl at different locations about a quarter mile downstream from the bridge and attempted to grab her from the water.
An officer had the girl and attempted to pull her to shore but they were separated in the rapids.
A fireman was able to grab her and pull her to shore shortly after.
Two firefighters were injured in the rescue and the juvenile female is being treated for hypothermia and minor injuries.
