YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - In September, we told you about the prevalent problem of illegal dumping taking place on Youngstown's southside. Now, hidden city cameras have caught two men in the act.

At about 9 a.m. on Friday, a black pick up truck is seen in surveillance video parking along a street on Youngstown's south side. There the driver and passenger got out of the truck and began tossing, what officials believe are the contents of an apartment or large room onto the side of the road and leaving it there.

"It's just a constant battle," said Robert Burke with Youngstown Litter Control.

Burke said for whatever reason the southside is a common place for dumping.

Our story in September, showed piles of garbage, tires, even a couch tossed out and left behind.

Now, this latest act has been caught-on-camera and city officials are asking the public to help identify the two men.

"Sometimes it may not even be somebody that lives in the city, they may live in another community and figure if they dump it far enough away than nobody will notice," said Burke.

"The message needs to be clear that Youngstown isn't going to tolerate this type of behavior," said Councilman Julius Oliver.

Oliver said illegal dumping can currently carry a fine and potential jail time.

He said city leaders are already working inhops of stiffening these penalties.

"What we want to do is make it so the judges, and the prosecutors, and everybody is on board to understand this is a serious problem in Youngstown and it needs to have serious penalties," said Oliver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
