The Mahoning Valley waking up to the first major snowfall of the season Tuesday morning that is continuing to carry into Tuesday evening. Trumbull County continues to get the most snow with a range of accumulation from a few inches to nearly a foot moving into Tuesday night.

"Our crews are out on 12-hour shifts and they have been diligently working as the snow falls to clear roads for motorists traveling," said Ray Marsh, ODOT District 4.

ODOT couldn't pretreat the roads because of Monday's rain but say the current temperature of the roads helps the salt and brine.

"The brine really sticks to the road and it helps melt that snow off as it accumulates," Marsh said.

Tuesday evening brought many cars to slide off roads, primarily in Trumbull County on popular routes including Route 11.

More accidents happening early Tuesday where a car slid off Route 5 in West Champion and a car flipping over in a ditch on 422 in Niles.

ODOT District 4 said in Trumbull County alone they have all 23 plows on the road and will continue to plow full-staff until the snow stops.

"We have the full county covered and ODOT crews remain on the clock," Marsh said.
