Tim Ryan calls on Biden to fill post office board vacancies

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Tim Ryan joined 77 other Democrats Wednesday calling on President Biden to fill the three vacancies on the United States Postal Service Board of Governors.
The board consists of 11 members including nine governors that are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
The Board of Governors also has the power to appoint and dismiss the Postmaster General and Deputy Postmaster General.
Currently, three of the nine governor seats on the board are vacant.
"The Postal Service should be an institution the American people unquestionably count on, but in recent months, my offices have been inundated with calls, emails, and letters detailing unacceptable issues with the USPS. We need to fix this problem, and that starts with an overhaul of USPS leadership," said Congressman Ryan.
The Democrats say the lack of bipartisan consensus was on display with the selection of Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General. They say DeJoy is a "megadonor" of the Republican Party and had no experience working for the Postal Service prior to being appointed to the position.
In the letter to President Biden, the 77 Democrats argued that the on-time delivery of flat mail has been affected since DeJoy's appointment.
They say filling the vacant seats on the Board of Governors will allow the Board to consider if the Postmaster General should continue in his role.
