19-year-old arrested for crash that killed former YSU football player
19-year-old Adrienne Washington was booked into Mahoning County Jail on Tuesday, March 9, in connection with a crash that took the life of former YSU football player Darius Shackleford last month.
The booking charges against the Youngstown man included aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Investigators say that on February 6, Washington was driving a car being chased on the city’s East Side for running a red light.
According to police, Washington and a 17-year-old juvenile were in a car that fled north on Albert Street, near the Himrod Expressway.
Police say as the officer turned around and activated his lights, the car fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Washington's vehicle ran a second red light at Albert and McGuffey, hitting Shackleford's car in the Investigators say Washington fled on foot and was later apprehended. The 17-year-old passenger did not flee the scene.
Washington is awaiting his trial date.
