WARREN, Ohio -  A Warren woman has been sentenced to eighteen years in prison after police found an emaciated five-year-old boy being kept in a basement and bruised from head to toe.

Canchata Allgood,31, pleaded guilty on Thursday to eight counts of child endangering and was immediately sentenced by Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Rice.

Allgood and 32-year-old James Jethroe were charged last year after police investigated reports of a child being kept in the basement and rarely fed at the Austin Avenue home they shared.

Police removed five children from the home after finding the 5-year-old boy in the basement with cameras installed to send alerts if the child tried to come upstairs.

Officials described the 5-year-old as just skin and bones, with bruising and injuries all over his body.

At the time of the arrests, a relative told 21 News he was unable to recognize his the boy because of his condition.

Jethroe, who was indicted along with Allgood in the case, remains in jail awaiting a May 5 court hearing on eleven charges including felonious assault and child endangering.

If Allgood serves her entire sentence, she’ll be in prison until 2039.
