HUBBARD, Ohio - Some Hubbard students laced up their shoes for a good cause Saturday morning.

Sophomores in Hubbard High School's Career and Community Exploration Class hosted a 5K to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The hospital has helped a lot of people, including the wife of a Hubbard high school teacher who's a 35-year cancer survivor.

In 1981, Michelle Moriarty was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 10. St. Jude helped her battle cancer until she eventually became cancer-free.

"We're just honored that they're doing this for St. Jude because it is true that people, parents, kids don't pay a dime," Michelle said. "So any donations go right to St. Jude... they just want to take care of the children and families to make sure that their kids survive."

School officials say the 5k raised at least $700 for St. Jude.
