Youngstown twins open up candy shop on southside

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - If you need to satisfy your sweet tooth this Summer, just head over to East Evergreen Street on Youngstown's southside. It's co-owners are 14-year-old twins, Kennedi and Keith Smith.
"There used to be a candy store around here but it closed, so we thought why not make a new one," Kennedi said.
It's called Candyland and is based off the board game.
"I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, just owner of a business, any business," Kennedi said. "I don't know, I just found that fascinating."
With some help from their mom and grandparents, they built and designed this very unique candy shop. Just follow the candy pieces and you can find old school candy and current favorites. If you're thirsty, you can also get a lemon shake or pop.
"Our grand opening was on Saturday and we made $400 just on that first day," Keith said.
Like any good business owners, Kennedi and Keith have a plan to succeed.
"We go like 40% of the money will go straight to this building for candy and stuff we want to readjust and 10% will go to my mom and grandpa and then the rest of the 50% will go to me, my sister and grandma," Keith said.
It's not a bad way to save for college, although Keith has some more pressing needs.
"I'm probably gonna buy some shoes," Keith said.
Candyland is open Monday through Saturday from 12 to 6.
