WARREN, Ohio - Using words like “monster” and “sociopath”, Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins is urging parole officials to deny the release of a prison inmate convicted of raping and robbing a disabled woman and killing her dog in Warren.

Terrance Stargell, 52, is on the 34th year of a 70-year sentence for rape, felonious assault, gross sexual imposition, and burglary. A parole hearing is scheduled for Stargell next month.

In 1987, investigators say a 62-year-old woman woke up in her Warren home to see Theresa Stella standing over her holding a knife.

Police say Stella, who had already cut the phone lines, ordered the victim to open the back door and let Stargell inside.

When the victim’s dog Boo began barking, Stargell stabbed the dog to death in front of the victim, according to prosecutors.

After Stella bound and gagged the victim, Stargell repeatedly raped her and stole items from her home.

The victim has since passed away.

Stargell was sentenced to 15 to 70 years in prison following his conviction. He was released on parole only to be jailed again in 2009 for violating terms of that parole for stalking a female employee of a Dollar General Store in Campbell.

According to Watkins, Stargell engaged in sexually provocative conversation with the employee who rebuffed his advances. When a male co-worker attempted to intervene on her behalf, Stargell pulled a knife on him, says Watkins.

“One release was too many! Clearly, this man is a documented sociopath and at age 62, he would likely only wreak havoc on society. Recent prison records put him as a moderate risk to re-offend if released,” writes Watkins in his letter to parole officials.
