The company announced four new nonstop flights to popular vacation destinations. The flights will begin in Spring 2022,  just in time for those looking for a Spring Break getaway.

The new routes include:

  • Sarasota, Florida via Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) - beginning March 3, 2022.

Fares begin at $59.

Allegiant said in a press release that their travelers "like the convenient access through smaller airports Allegiant serves in communities that have traditionally lacked commercial air services."

It's been about four years since Allegiant Air stopped passenger service to Youngstown.

In July, Western Reserve Port Authority CEO John Moliterno said they were in talks with a number of airlines about services to the Valley. He said at the time, "Our hope is that we're able to put together an agreement with an airline and be able to make an announcement sometime this Fall about plans for 2022."

Following the announcement that Allegiant will return to Akron-Canton Airport, Moliterno told 21 News that the finalized deal has not deterred them from continuing their conversations with the airline.

"We have not stopped working to convince Allegiant that routes flew out of Youngstown were very successful," said Moliterno.

Moliterno said they are still in talks with Allegiant and had their last conversation with the airline just three weeks ago.

21 News asked Allegiant if they had any plans to return to the Youngstown Regional Airport. They said "not at this time."
